Barcelona, 29 of June of 2012; Arquitecta Beth Galí, the president of Santa & Cole, Javier Grandson Santa, and president of BCD Barcelona Centro of Design, Pau Herrera, has summoned this morning to mass media in the City of the Justice of Barcelona to denounce a case publicly of
falsification on great scale committed by the State of Qatar.
The encounter, carried out to the doors of the City of the Justice of Barcelona, has been celebrated in the occasion of the demand by moral damages presented/displayed today by Beth Galí against Qatar, state that, through the public company Ashghal, falsified in 2006 the Latin lamppost “?, designed by arquitecta Catalan and produced and commercialized by the company Santa & Cole.
This case of falsification on great scale acquires special relevance because the violator is a sovereign state, although also by the monumentalidad of the action and the development of the events.
The crime perpetrated by the state of Qatar can be contemplated throughout the 10 kilometers of A the Waab Street, the main avenue of the qatarí capital, Doha, where the public company Ashghal installed near 900 falsifications of the Latin lamppost.
Although the case occurs to know the public opinion today 29 June 2012, the facts go back to the month of April of 2005, when Ashghal asks for to Santa & Cole a complete project of illumination for the avenue To the Waab Street, in the occasion of XV the Asian Games (Doha 2006). After the election of the Latin lamppost “? on the part of the qataríes authorities - previously adapted to the necessities of the order – and the presentation of up to five projects different with scale models and engineering specifications, in 2006 Ashghal orders the manufacture from near 1,000 copies of the Latin lamppost to a local company.
After six years on attempts to reach a friendly agreement, and after the qatarí government refused to the arbitration of the World-wide Organization of Propiedad Intelectual (OMPI), the case arrives at the Courts of Barcelona and public one becomes of the greater acts of piracy of the history of the design perpetrated by a sovereign state.
Against this background, the part plaintiff, Beth Galí, has expressed before the courts his “ total confidence in Spanish justice to solve a flagrant case of falsification on great scale?.
