Milan, February 2008 – On the occasion of the next Salone del Mobile [Furniture Exhibition] of Milan, Lea Ceramiche will present Streets and City, the collections designed by Diego Grandi and proposed in an installation that will animate the spaces at Via Volta 18 with materials and architectural design.

The city will be the lively protagonist of this week of design, both as an abstract space and an exploratory theme for Streets and City: a mixed media reinterpretation and contemporary geometric vision of an urban map.
The installation gives a wide-ranging vision of various surface materials and treatments viewed from all angles: a white enamel texture on a black opaque base for Streets, presented in the larger and theatrical format 60 x 120 cm; a metallic bas relief for City, which proposes an abstract treatment of the map on a bronze, anthracite and silver base, in the version 60 x 60 cm.

Digital volumes of luminaire and urban images reveal the deep connection of these collections with the city itself, providing projections of buildings and streets that cross each other to indicate a path and become part of a map. The vast showcase in the spaces of Via Volta overlooks the city, the design concept and at the same time a spectator of the installation.

These are not simply ceramic coverings but an intense and striking characterization of the spaces and places of contemporary life: Streets and City bring to the surface the explorations and researches of Lea Ceramiche, which tells stories about design in the language most closely associated with it: ceramics.

The Fuori Salone event of Milan is the first design step on an exception project to which Lea Cermiche will be committed for the full year 2008. In fact the company is a sponsor of the event Turin 2008 World Design Architectural capital, in which the Piedmont capital is the center of attention for the entire year, with events, exhibitions, workshops and international conferences dedicated to the subject of design.

The strong design content characterizing the products and installations by Lea Ceramiche thus becomes the common thread of every new project. In the past few years the company has expanded its identity and promoted ceramics as a material, the widespread usage and great versatility of which have offered opportunities for innovative and never prosaic applications.
