A Passion For Art Deco.....

A Passion For Art Deco.....

Art Deco was a popular international art design movement from 1925 until the 1940s, affecting the decorative arts such as architecture, interior design, and industrial design, as well as the visual arts such as fashion, painting, the graphic arts, and film. At the time, this style was seen as elegant, glamorous, functional, and modern.

The influence of French Art Deco on British design can be seen in our new “Cloud” sofa which is also available as a chair. The structure of Art Deco is based on mathematical geometric shapes and the distinctive curves around the side and back of this model is testament to this elegant yet flamboyant style.

The “Cloud” also features an inlaid wood veneer trim (yew). The use of exotic veneers was originally inspired by the work of Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann born in Paris 1879. He was a renowned French designer of furniture and interiors, epitomizing for many the glamour of the French Art Deco style of the 1920s.
For further details on the “Cloud” please visit our website.

The Fleming & Howland family come from a long line of traditional furniture makers and upholsterers. They are one of very few British manufacturers with a passion for true craftsmanship.
