RCD Espanyol’s new stadium is a prestigious project by architects Esteve Gasulla (Arquitectura Integral SL) and Mark Fenwick (RFA Architecture), architect and co-designer. In addition to the football pitch, the 40,000-seat stadium will feature a shopping and leisure centre. The structure, designed in line with energy-efficiency principles, includes solar panels and a system for recycling rainwater.
Figueras International Seating (www.figueras.com) was selected to provide the seating for the new stadium. Three models in the team’s corporate blue will be installed: the B-2003 sports seat for risers in the general seating area, the Minispace, and the Lyon model for the presidential area.
The B-2003, a product specially designed for sports stadiums, guarantees maximum safety for users. It’s a comfortable model that requires minimum maintenance. The folding system makes it easy to pass between rows without reducing user comfort, as well as facilitating evacuation of the stadium in the event of an emergency. The type of plastic used is highly weather-resistant and stands up extremely well to the sun’s rays.
The Minispace, used in the VIP area, is an upholstered chair that offers a high level of comfort. The seat is specially designed to take up as little space as possible without sacrificing maximum comfort. Like the other models, the Minispace meets the strict safety requirements that apply in public spaces.
The RCD Espanyol stadium is the latest in a long list of major sports complexes outfitted by Figueras International Seating. Previous projects include the Telefónica Arena and the Palacio de Deportes in Madrid, the Khalifa Stadium in Doha (Qatar), the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen (Denmark), and VIP areas of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium (the home of Real Madrid), the Camp Nou Stadium (home of FC Barcelona), and the O2 World Arena in Berlin, Germany.
