Lyon breathes new life into city center with the prestigious Tour Oxygène

Echo supplies 10,000m² of floor slabs for skyscraper
From the beginning of 2010, Lyon, in Eastern France, will have a new architectural attraction to ensure its international character. Project Oxygène includes a skyscraper and a shopping center that covers over 10,000m². Echo will supply the floor solutions for the 115m tall Tour Oxygène.

The sustainable building project is part of the city of Lyon’s objective to build an additional six towers with offices by 2020, which are meant to strengthen the international character of Lyon.

Beacon in the city
Project Oxygène breathes new life into business center Part-Dieu. By 2010, Tour Oxygène will be the first tower in Lyon that contributes to the rise of sustainable development.

Moreover, the skyscraper has been designed in such a way that it will have as little impact as possible on the environment, with a lot of attention to a healthy and comfortable indoor climate. Tour Oxygène will integrate perfectly into the immediate surroundings and into the overall landscape.

The up-todate design of the skyscraper is a sharp contrast to the historical inner city of Lyon - which has been on the UNESCO list of world legacies since 1998 - without compromising the coherence.

The steel leaf at the top of the tower will be lit up at night and will therefore tower above the city as a beacon. Another striking fact: 80 percent of the skyscraper’s exterior will be glass, so that virtually all the offices can count on direct daylight.

Seven elevators will take the employees and visitors to one of the 28 floors at a speed of 4 meters per second. Every storey covers an area of 1,000m², divided into 300m² portions. This will provide the Tour Oxygène with 2,000 workplaces.

Ecological dimension
The fact that the Tour Oxygène is a unique piece of architecture is beyond dispute. The glass façade enhances the elegant and tall character of the tower and the majestic hall is unprecedented with its intriguing triangular interplay of lines, which is extended by a glass and iron porch.

The characteristic mounting of the tower will be visible from anywhere in the city as the symbolic trademark of the project. The façades will have a lightgreen look, which will give it an extra ecological dimension.
