Leading broadloom carpet and carpet tile manufacturer Desso has firmly established itself in the heart of London’s design community with the opening of a new showroom in Clerkenwell. Showcasing Desso’s Carpetecture design concept, the two storey space doubles as a flexible central London work base for architects, designers and clients.
Launched with a ‘red carpet’ reception attended by over two hundred industry guests, the new facility reflects Desso’s commitment to creative carpet design. David Smith, Sales and Marketing Director UK/ROI, sees the new showroom as a “huge contemporary step forward” for Desso in the UK.
“This is an incredibly exciting development for Desso,” explains David. “It demonstrates our commitment to building and developing relationships with the architectural and design community by providing the best possible working environment for them to use in central London.”
Offering a full range of services, including a special product demonstration area, sampling service and full product reference library, the showroom also has a full time designer to inspire and work alongside clients and help realise their schemes.
Desso’s designer, Cheryl Wright, will be drawing upon her ten years experience as a graphic designer and her interior architectural studies at London Metropolitan University and the University of California to push the boundaries of contemporary and traditional flooring design.
Showroom host, Hattie Erdogan, is always on hand to provide information and ensure a warm welcome at any time. “We aim to provide a relaxed atmosphere for architects, designers and clients in the showroom,” explains Hattie. “The breakfast bar, coffee facilities and wireless internet access make this a great place for meetings or for snatching a couple of hours work between meetings in London.”
The showroom will be hosting regular events, such as business breakfasts, presentations, workshops, seminars and RIBA-approved CPDs, providing the opportunity for visitors to see Desso’s ideas and products at work and to contribute to their development.
The showroom space has been designed around Desso’s Carpetecture design philosophy, drawing inspiration from contemporary architecture itself to create flooring designs that perform effectively alongside other architectural and design elements. Sustainability plays a fundamental part in all Desso’s operations, and energy saving features such as passive infra red luminaire sensors and partnership with a green energy supplier were deemed vital to the showroom’s long term sustainability.
