The Jury of the present edition has given the award "because of a new version given to a classical design furniture. It is a simple bench which becomes an objet for a lot of different applications and is easily recycable, as there is only one constructive material.
The Swiss modern benches are an intelligent tribute to the Catalano bench which was projected by Oscar Tusquets and Lluis Clotet in 1974, and which has become one of the most emblemetic pieces of Spanish Design. Häberli took the ergonomical outline from the Catalano bench, which is the most comfortable one for a public bench, created by Antonio Gaudí for the Parque Güell in Barcelona. Also the use of the perforated steel sheet,
which gives transperancy, and enables the air to circulate through the bench and avoids the accumulation of the rain water. Besides all these advantages Häberli gives them a new aesthetic outlook in accordance to our present time and some new extra functions not only sitting down, but for exemple it is as well a table supplier where to write or eat.
