LINCOLN CENTER- ALICE TULLY HALL

LOCATION: New York, NY
DESIGNER: Diller Scofidio + Renfro | CONTRACTOR: Turner Construction
PHOTOGRAPHER: Iwan Baan
3form ADVANTAGE: Custom Fabrication, Architectural Support and Material Development

The Challenge:
To create a heat formable translucent wood with acoustic properties for a progressive installation combining classic solid wood surfacing with contemporary translucent wood veneers.

The Play:
After 3 months of research and development 3form produced a material with the needed properties for this complex installation. The panels were then tested for fabrication and bending capabilities- and production began.
3form Architecture was involved in the entire process from geometry rationalization for the heat forming to the structural, hardware and lighting design for installing the compound curves.
After extensive material testing, fabrication testing and prototyping- the installation is set to be completed this fall and will be the first world-class performance hall to be clad with recycled resin.

The Result:
This highly collaborative project laid the groundwork for the new 3form wood collection. The innovative material becomes the highlight of the innovative design. When installed, the performance hall will glow with the warmth of wood enhanced by the luminosity of quality recycled resin
